Dating app Tinder is launching a new “Super Like” feature, which will allow users to express heightened interest in other individuals looking for love.
Until now, choosing people to connect with on Tinder has been pretty straightforward — it’s either a yes or no, a left swipe or a right swipe. The Super Like feature, however, will introduce a new gesture to the app — an upward swipe on a user’s profile.
In order to ensure selective use, each user will only be granted a set number of Super Likes — meaning they’ll have to be careful about exactly when they deploy them. At launch, users will only get one Super Like pre day. Lucky users who have been on the receiving end of a Super Like will be informed by the presence of a blue footer on the bottom of their admirer’s profile.
“Because they’re so limited in number, a Super Like, or a ‘swipe up’, sends a more powerful signal, conveying an especially high level of interest. People like to know that someone finds them special, and we think this will lead to even better matches. In this and future product releases we’re focused on maintaining the incredible fun of the Tinder community while providing our users with better tools for making great connections,” says Tinder CEO Sean Rad.
The new feature will initially only be available in Australia, and is expected to roll out globally later this year.
