Is this the iPhone 6s? Video emerges claiming to show Apple’s next smartphone

Leaked footage purports to show outside casing and components of the new smartphone corroborating latest rumours

The launch of Apple’s next iPhone is expected to be just around the corner, and more details are emerging ahead of the device being unveiled next month.

A video has emerged online claiming to show the exterior and internal components of the next iPhone, and revealing that the new device looks a lot like its predecessor.

The video, produced by Apple website MacRumors, does not show the device running iOS 9, the latest version of Apple’s mobile software which the new iPhone will launch with. It simply shows a “gear” icon on startup.

However, the device does match many of the rumours surrounding the new iPhone. It has an upgraded modem, the Qualcomm MDM9635M, which should allow faster data speeds while using less power, as well as a new cellular chip intend to improve reception.

The video also appears to show an upgraded processor. The iPhone 6s is expected to have a new A9 chip which willproduce major speed improvements, and the video displays a slightly bigger processor inside the iPhone, although it is not marked “A9”.

The current A8 series use a 20nm processor and the new ones would use 14nm. RAM is also likely to be upgraded to 2GB from the current 1GB.

The next iPhone is expected to integrate the Force Touch technology found in the Apple Watch and some MacBook models, which will allow users to press down hard on the iPhone’s screen to provide new menu options. These could be shortcuts such as driving directions when one Force Touches a location in Maps.

This appears to be backed up by MacRumors’ video, which shows that the protective shielding on the back of the display is glued down, rather than screwed in.

The iPhone 6s is expected to be unveiled by Apple at an event in California on September 9. As with last year, the company is likely to unveil two models, a 4.7-inch standard version and a 5.5-inch “Plus” model.

New features are expected to include aDSLR-quality camera as well as a faster processor and Force Touch.

The new model will run iOS 9, the newest version of Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch software which was announced atApple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in early June.

As well as the new smartphones, many expect Apple to unveil a new and bigger version of the iPad, and a refreshed Apple TV.
