Toddyhancer is a mod currently under construction by Martin Bergman that brings the multi-million selling action game closer to photo-realism. Lighting, detail, and texturing all look notably improved as a result, bringing the grimy urban streets and glorious open valleys of Los Santos even more beautifully to life.
The mod’s author has also posted in-progress screens of Toddyhancer at work on Imgur, though notes they’re older work in progress examples. Thevideo shows the mod in its most recent and impressive state.
Despite the fantastic results, he says the work hasn’t required any extravagent effort to implement. “It’s just Reshade Shaders, ENB series, simple tweaks and some tonemapping with class!”, Bergman writes.
In a Facebook post, Bergman also addresses some of the key points of releasing a mod such as this. Notably, he says the mod will eat up 10-30fps — making it potentially quite demandsing, though there will be a “sh*t setup build as well” for users with less powerful systems — and that it’s not expected to be compatible with GTA Online.
Tantalising as the results are, there’s no planned release for Toddyhancer yet, with Bergman taking a “done when it’s done” approach to the mod. However, further updates will be posted as he progresses with the project.
If the final build lives up to expectations, Bergman’s work could be to GTA Vwhat the iCEnhancer 3.0 mod was to GTA 4. That notably allowed players with powerful enough gaming PCs to boost the game to near 4K quality.
